The African Democratic Congress has announced plans to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections with the scheduling of a national convention aimed at strengthening its internal structures and expanding its national appeal.
The party leadership disclosed that the convention would serve as a platform to review its strategies, elect or reaffirm key officials where necessary, and chart a new political direction capable of positioning the ADC as a formidable force in the country’s political landscape.
According to party officials, the move is part of broader efforts to consolidate the party’s growing support base across the country and deepen internal democracy within its ranks.
A statement issued by the party leadership said the convention would bring together delegates, stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders, and members of the National Executive Committee to deliberate on critical national and party issues ahead of the 2027 polls.
The ADC noted that Nigeria requires a credible political alternative capable of addressing the country’s economic challenges, insecurity, unemployment, and governance concerns.
Party leaders also stressed the need for unity among members, urging stakeholders to close ranks and work collectively towards building a stronger opposition platform.
The convention is expected to feature policy discussions, consultations on electoral strategies, and the unveiling of programmes targeted at attracting young Nigerians and professionals into active politics.
Political observers believe the renewed activities within the ADC may be linked to ongoing realignments among opposition parties and growing conversations around coalition-building ahead of the next general elections.
In recent months, several political actors and groups have intensified engagements aimed at strengthening opposition politics and presenting alternative leadership options to Nigerians in 2027.
The ADC leadership, however, maintained that the party remains focused on issue-based politics and national development, insisting that its priority is to provide credible leadership and democratic governance for the country.
